Steve Lujan, is an Insurance agent who helps families and individuals with their Medicare, Life Insurance and savings goals. Over the years he has accumulated a unique set of experiences that have molded him personally and professionally. His goal is to give back and help by sharing what he’s learned about unexpected events that may occur in your life.
As a result of the real estate market crash of 2007 Steve lost his income, two homes to foreclosure, his “fancy” car and watched as his credit score went down the drain. During this low point Steve looked in the mirror and found himself doubting his own abilities as events outside of his control stripped away the material things that he had worked hard to obtain. It was during this time period that Steve developed a “Dig Deep” philosophy and attitude about life which simply meant when you find yourself in life’s storm; believe in yourself, do your best and never quit.
In 2009 Steve’s 69 year old mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. This disease is currently the 3rd leading cause of death in San Diego county. His role quickly changed from that of a son, then with the help of his wife as a caregiver and now as a power of attorney. Steve learned the hard way, that ignorance is not bliss. A lack of education on insurance benefits and proper planning has come at a high cost for himself, his family and ultimately his mother through the quality of care his family has access to. The average cost of assisted living in California is $3750 per month as of 2015. His passion is to educate families on how to prepare for the unimaginable such as family illness, disability, job loss or passing of a loved one. He believes that proactive planning can provide a peace of mind for an entire family without sacrificing a family’s life savings, home or other valuable assets.
In 2013 and 2014 Steve volunteered with San Diego Charger Larry English and the L.E.A.D Foundation. He was featured as one of four guest speakers at it’s inaugural event. The Foundation is committed to creating opportunities to broaden the mindset of youth athletes by empowering them with advanced programming in education, professional development and mentoring to help them achieve their dreams.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important to Steve. He is an energetic guy who loves to keep balance by hiking or going on long walks with his wife Yuri or playing basketball with the “young guns”. They have two cats and a dog that bring lots of joy into their home. He also enjoys traveling and is fascinated by seeing new places and meeting new people. His wife is originally from Japan and in late 2015 they spent five weeks visiting family in her hometown. It was a trip of a lifetime. He also feels fortunate to have experienced international travel to Peru, Costa Rica, Prague, Germany and Mexico.
